Eagle Rock Traditional Spanish

This traditional Spanish home in Eagle Rock needed an complete makeover of the exterior property to compliment the exquisitely renovated interior. The home owner wanted to stay true to the California Spanish craftmanship and design details in redesigning the outside spaces as he had with the interior house. Green Landscape Designs worked closely with the home owner in not only the hardscape, garden layout and plants, but in selection of the finishing touches and furnishing. As a result, both the home and the garden share the elegance and charm of a lovely, warm Spanish Style hacienda with some modern conveniences. 

West LA Cottage Bungalow

1940's built bungalow was updated with a new cheery paint color and contrasting front door. A simple cottage "style" garden was chosen to complement the simple bungalow design. The plant palette pairs nicely with the new fresh color, yet the plants are drought tolerant as well. Of prime importance, the new design needed to address the drainage of the property as the house is situated somewhat below the existing front walk. A new flagstone pathway was installed with open joints to allow water the percolate between the stones. A small channel drain and raised stone planter beds adjacent to the house direct the water away from the house. The new picket fence was purposely installed back from front property line to allow planting on both sides of the fence, creating a more inviting space.

Mar Vista Mid-Century Modern

The Client wished to update this Mar Vista home with a new front landscape that was more reflective of the home's Mid-Century style. They also wanted a landscape that was drought tolerant and met the criteria for a DWP lawn removal rebate. Once approved for the rebate, the design was installed. A new front deck was included in the design to increase the outdoor living space as well as enhance the front entry.

Culver City Landscape Redo

This charming Culver City home had previously been remodeled to include a second story addition. In the remodel, the home owners extended the garage to enclose the previous front entrance and relocated the main entrance to the side of the house. Recently, the home owners wanted to redesign their front and back yard and update the garden. An entry arbor was designed and installed to welcome arriving guests and lead them into the relocated main entrance. Travertine stone was installed at the entry courtyard. Landscape lighting provides a soft glow in the garden at night. The front lawn was removed and drought tolerant plants (some reused from the previous garden) and decorative pebbles were added to the front. New concrete paths and a patio with built-in benches were added to the back yard. The home's outdoor spaces have transformed into 3 distinct living "rooms" and the new front entry clearly provides a warm welcome.

We removed the front lawn and installed succulents and drought tolerant plants in clusters forming meandering pathways through the front garden. A leisurely stroll through the garden leads to the discovery of new plants and plant combinations. Different seasons provide new color combinations as plants flower, bloom or change color in fall.

Santa Monica Landscape Design

The original house had a small concrete porch at the front of the house enclosed by 3' high concrete plaster walls. The home owners wanted to open up the space so that they could expand their living area into the yard and have more room for entertaining. We removed the concrete plaster walls and built a wood deck flush with the existing porch.  Built-in seating replaces a railing to frame the deck. The existing Coral tree was saved as the new deck was built to accommodate the tree's trunk. Poured in-place concrete pavers, new fencing and colorful planting complete the space and gives this home and garden a fresh new look.

West Los Angeles Home

The new home owners wanted to refresh the existing garden, add fruit trees and a back patio for entertaining. The small side garden was not used except for a few small planted palms. We added a feature planted pot and flagstone pavers with ground cover to incorporate this space into the home's front entry patio. The back patio and connecting walk were also added to create more entertainment space for the home owners.  Planting beds were refreshed and updated. The side walkway was cleaned up and vines were planted against the new fence. The home owner's now enjoy their new garden and entertain frequently..

Manhattan Beach House

This Manhattan Beach house previously had a rock garden in the back yard that had been neglected and needed to be redesigned. We collected all the rock and repurposed them to form a small retaining wall with steps leading to an upper lounge area. Planting in the back and front beds transformed this garden into a colorful and inviting space and entry.

Drought Tolerant Garden

The home owner wanted to remove the lawn and add interest while installing a drought tolerant garden. Drought tolerant plants inspired by a New Zealand plant palette were the base for this garden. A water feature and a Palo verde tree attracts local finches. A secret garden with a hidden Buddha delights the client as she looks out her family room window. Colorful plants and the desert specimen tree makes this a truly special garden.

Los Angeles Backyard Retreat

A garden refresh for this backyard landscape creates a colorful yet peaceful retreat for the home owners and family. The arbor provides for a shady lounge area and the dining area accommodates 6 people for entertaining. Lush planting and flagstone stepping stones give this garden a romantic feel. 

Pacific Palisades

Mar Vista Asian

This unused corner space was transformed to create an Asian inspired secret garden retreat. Features include a small bridge over a dry stream bed and lush colorful planting. Both path and pendent landscape lights were added for illumination in evenings. A truly magical space in this backyard garden.

West Los Angeles Garden Design

The home owner wanted a drought tolerant landscape but still wanted the feel of space and calm that a lawn provides. We started with a clean slate. We chose to install a low growing ground cover that can be mowed every few months or left to grow to about 4-6" high. Additional perimeter plants and parkway plating all consisted of drought tolerant plants. Different color and textures were incorporated to provide interest. When complete, we accomplished having the  "green space" the client envisioned while creating a water wise and interesting landscape.

West Los Angeles Bungalow with Drought Tolerant Landscape

Initially this home lacked a front entrance from the sidewalk to the front entrance steps. The home owners also wanted to remove the old front lawn and install a drought tolerant garden. We installed a low retaining wall, front entry steps and a brick walk to match the existing brick walk from the drive to the front door. Drought tolerant landscape was installed including a spring blooming specimen tree. Now the house has a proper, clearly defined entrance and a wonderful front garden that gives the home newly enhanced curb appeal.
